Healing Postpartum
Birth and postpartum are a rite of passage, where a new of you is. a born.
After pregnancy and the marathon of birth it is paramount that YOU prioritise and take time to recover, as you would with a surgery.
However, society pushes us to bounce back, quickly recover and go back to normal as soon as we can.
But what is normal and how can you after so much has happened?
In ancient traditions we can see a pattern of women allowing a period of time for recovery. In China it is know as ‘The Golden Month’, in the Indian Ayurvedic Tradition ‘ The Sacred Window’, in countries like Mexico and Guatemala ‘La Cuarentena’.
A space of approximately 40 days for the mother to rest and rejuvenate, gain back strength after labour. In the Hopi traditions, single and elderly women will move back in to the new mother’s house so she does not have to do any house keeping chores.
But how can we incorporate this in the Western World?
Rest
Rest is essential for your body, mind and soul during this period of time. After 9 months of transformation and giving birth it is only natural that your body would need some REST to readjust. Rest and warmth are really important to let the body heal.

Cuddles, a massage, soft strokes, etc are a great way to boost oxytocin (the happy hormone, that also manages breastmilk supply!). So make sure you are not only giving out love and cuddles to your baby but receiving this love as well.
3.Warm nourishing foods
Postpartum it’s all about warmth! After birth, the body gets empty and cold, so to nourishing it, rejuvenate and heal warm foods will help the mum to recover.
4.Connection: Sisterhood of wise women around you
Connection vs isolation is a huge game changer in the journey of motherhood! Find your tribe of wise women around you who can walk alongside you and relate and support on your daily life as a mother.
5. Contact with nature
As you spend all the hours of your day regulating your baby you may become tired or depleted. Contact with nature will regulate your emotions and energy as a mother so you can show up to your baby with love. That may look like: sunbathing, gardening, a warm bath, walking barefoot, watching the trees…
